Ingredients:
2 Fully Ripe Bananas (no green, stems turning brown)
1/2 cup Almond Milk

• slice and freeze Bananas in a single layer.
• blend Almond Milk in blender, adding Banana slices one or two at a time through the hole in the top of the blender, covering with a towel so as not to get splashed. Blend until texture is smooth.
• Enjoy

The mixture can be thrown back into the freezer to firm up if you can stand waiting, but if it’s left too long it will turn into Banana Ice, which is…

I went there recently and took pictures along the way.

From downtown, take the Pink Line.

The stop is Damen.

From there, walk 1/2 block south, 1 1/2 blocks west.

Almost there.

This is it.

The place is huge, 3 floors. It’s a little overwhelming.

There was a lot of polyester. I wasn’t sure I would find anything, but this remnant of yellow upholstery weight velveteen snagged me. Also picked up some variegated rattail cord.

Bonus: The Eco Rooftop (.org) is visible from the Damen El stop.
Check it on your way out.

Serves 4

Ingredients:

4 Potatoes (Use your favorite kind or any kind. If they are the small variety, use a couple/few per person. My favorites lately are Yukon Gold or anything with an interesting color.)

1/2 a large white Onion

1 tablespoon Olive Oil

handful fresh Dill (or dried or whatever herbs you like)

Salt and Pepper

Directions:

• Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
• Wash the potatoes, cut into large chunks. Chop the onion and dill.
• Throw all of the ingredients into a large bowl, toss.
• Pour into a glass baking dish. Cover dish with parchment paper. The is the secret to making this dish come out nicely. The parchment paper steams the food and keeps everything moist yet crispy. Put the parchment paper dish on a cookie sheet (just to hold in the edges of the paper).
• Bake for about 40 to 60 minutes, until potatoes are very tender. Check with a fork. It’s tough to overcook this dish. The longer it cooks, the crispier/more carmelized everything gets.

I found a template and poster board. It folded well and looked better,
but was flimsy.

Decided to try the beer box again with the template. I think either beer/cereal boxes or poster board work well, but they both crush easily and so won’t
work for shipping for the shop. They would make great impromptu gift boxes.

This tool is crucial. It’s called a bone fold and you use it to score the fold lines.
If you don’t have one just use something that has a rounded point.

This is the template shape. Just draw, print, or trace onto your paper, score the folds. Fold and secure the flap on the long edge with double-sided tape or glue. Fold in the side flaps.

A mid-century artist mostly known for her textiles, Anni also designed jewelry using common household items such as washers and bobby pins. I decided to make one of her famous washer necklaces for myself, and luckily had no problem finding tutorials online. The Small Object has step-by-step photos, and I really liked the suggestion by Carly at cutoutandkeep.net to use varying sizes of washers.

The materials cost almost nothing. I used polyester grosgrain ribbon because it was cheap and I loved the color, but if you can find rayon it’s much nicer. The finished product has weight to it but is very comfortable. I hope to get a lot of wear out of it this fall/winter.

According to my book “Decorating is Fun” by Dorothy Draper, published in 1939, there are many things you need to be really happy in bed:
1. A good reading lamp – perhaps a gooseneck with a high-powered bulb,
perhaps one of those little spotlights that fall right on your book.
2. An adequate end table (one at each side of the bed if possible).
3. A small radio on the table.
4. A bedside clock, perhaps with a luminous dial.
5. A thermos for ice water or hot cocoa.
6. A jar of cookies or fruit for night nibblers.
7. An outlet for an electric pad when you need one.
8. A bedside telephone and a complete list of telephone numbers.
9. A small book, or magazine rack, for night reading.
10. An ashtray and cigarette box.
11. Just the pillows you find most comfortable.
(Perhaps one hard and one soft and one baby pillow.)
12. A good supply of blankets of all weights.
13. A comfortable, pretty breakfast tray and china, for breakfast in bed or for use when you’re ill.

all the touristy things that I never seem to do while actually living here,
like going to the aquarium and the Hancock building. Here are a couple
views from downtown as the sun was setting.

This song came to mind although it’s about dawn in San Francisco,
not dusk in Chicago.

Also got a chance to cut a pendant from the shape in the photo below.
