fortune cookie ornament
Published December 8, 2007 misc Leave a CommentTags: asian aesthetic, Chrysanthemum, fortune cookie, natural dye, ornament, wool felt
been working on turning my little fortune cookie prototype into a christmas ornament. at first i was thinking of leaving the white wool as-is, but it reminds me too much of a communion wafer. so i tried dying the wool by simmering it in tea, which turned it whole-wheat brown.

perfect for any healthy felted food that i may want to make in the future, but definitely not fortune cookie-color. turns out digible designs knows about natural dying and suggested Chrysanthemum for yellow. i love those flowers because they fit into my whole asian aesthetic. the funny thing is i met a chinese lady who told me that she doesn’t really like to have them around because she thinks of them as being associated with death. just like lilys for americans. i hate that smell.

i have been admiring the fortune cookies on etsy, ceramic, felted, sewn.
so i decided to try one. grabbed some wool felt from the fabric store,
stitched it up, and threw a little stuffing in.
